Who we are

Calmer Canines Ltd (company number 14883752), registered at 22 Derby St W, Ormskirk, L39 3NH, trading as Calmer Canines, The Shouty-Barky Dog Lady and SAfe. We're responsible for the personal data we collect through this website and our programmes, memberships and courses. If you have any questions about this policy, please email Stephie@CalmerCanines.co.uk.

What we collect

  • Your name, contact details and billing address
  • Payment details, which are processed securely by our payment providers rather than stored by us
  • Information about your dog, its history and your home life that you share so we can support you
  • What you share in sessions, calls, messages, community spaces and coursework
  • Recordings of live sessions and calls
  • How you use our website and course platforms, through cookies and similar technology
  • Your marketing preferences

Health information

Sometimes your own health has a bearing on your dog, for example how you're able to move around your home, or how stress or tiredness shows up in your day. If you choose to share health information with us, we'll only use it to support you and your dog, we'll only record what's relevant to that, and we'll ask for your explicit consent before we do. This information may appear in session recordings, notes and summaries, including those prepared with the help of artificial intelligence tools.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing Stephie@CalmerCanines.co.uk, and we'll stop using that information from then on.

How we use it and why

  • To deliver the programme, membership or course you've signed up for, because that's part of our contract with you
  • To keep records, run our business, and handle any questions or disputes, because we have a legitimate interest in doing so
  • To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping financial records for tax
  • To send you emails about our services, where you've agreed to this or you're an existing customer. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

Who we share it with

We use trusted third-party platforms to deliver our services, including course hosting and website platforms, payment processors, email systems, video call and recording tools, note taking and artificial intelligence tools, and messaging and community platforms. We only share what each platform needs, and we never sell your data.

We may also share your data with trusted contractors who help us deliver our programmes, such as co-facilitators and associate practitioners. They only see what they need to support you, they are bound by confidentiality, and they only use your data for that purpose.

We may also share data with professional advisers such as our accountant or insurer, or where the law requires it.

Artificial intelligence

We may use artificial intelligence tools to help us deliver our services, for example generating notes or summaries from sessions, calls and messages, however they reach us. These tools support our practice, they do not replace it. Any feedback, guidance or referral decisions remain ours to make, based on our own judgement and experience, and no decisions about you are made by AI alone.

Recordings, images and video

Live group sessions may be recorded and shared with other members of the same programme, membership or course. These recordings may include your name, voice, image and anything you choose to share. One-to-one sessions may be recorded so we can prepare your notes and summaries, and these are not shared with other clients.

As set out in our terms and conditions, we may use images or video from sessions in our social media or training materials unless you let us know you'd rather we didn't.

Data outside the UK

Some of the platforms we use are based outside the UK, including in the USA, so your data may be transferred and stored there. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data for up to six years after your programme, membership or course access ends. This supports continuity if you return to us, and meets our legal and record keeping obligations. If you're on our mailing list, we keep your details until you unsubscribe. We may keep anonymised information, which can no longer identify you, for longer.

Keeping it safe

We take sensible steps to protect your data, including secure logins on the platforms we use, and we'll let you and the ICO know if there's a breach where the law requires it.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct it
  • ask us to delete it, unless we're required to keep it
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
  • ask for a copy to take elsewhere
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it

To use any of these rights, please email Stephie@CalmerCanines.co.uk. There's no charge, and we'll respond within one month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, please email Stephie@CalmerCanines.co.uk. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and respond as quickly as we can. If you're still not happy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
